I have lived in Utah for more than twenty six years and just visited the UMFA for the very first time last week. In my defense, the museum had been closed for the past 18 months while it underwent a major renovation. The museum is not large, but thoughtfully curated in a way that makes the art more accessible. I encountered a number of kiosks throughout the museum that posed provocative questions and gave me permission to truly view the art and interpret it for myself. The museum also makes an effort to display pieces of art created by groups typically less represented in museums i.e. women. I am looking forward to my next visit to this lovely museum and discovering more of its treasures.
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is located on the campus of University of Utah in Salt Lake City and is open from 10am – 5pm daily (closed on Mondays). Admission is free each first Wednesday and third Saturday of the month.
